Emerson Readers Book Group

We meet the 4th Thursday of each month except December, at 1:30 pm in the Emerson Room. Anyone interested in gaining more information or with questions about the Emerson Readers, please contact Judy Milbrath, jam@milbrath.net. You are welcome to invite friends and neighbors and submit titles you would like to see on the 2018 schedule.

The January meeting of the Emerson Readers will meet on Tues., Jan.23, from 1:30-3:00 pm in the Emerson Rm. We meet on the 4th Tues. of each month, except December. We may make some changes in time of day or evening so more people can attend.

Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte, is our choice for January. You can read any edition of Jane Eyre. My edition of Bronte’s classic, based on the 1848 3rd edition, presents the novel along with five critical essays—

newly commissioned or revised for a student audience—that read Jane Eyre from five

contemporary critical perspectives: Feminist Criticism, Psychoanalytic Criticism, Deconstruction, Cultural Criticism, and Marxist Criticism. We may have some discussion based on the critical essays in the present book.
Judy Milbrath will be discussion leader on the basics of this popular novel and encourage you to attend this meeting. The Milwaukee Rep made Jane Eyre a popular play earlier this year, which shows the power of Charlotte Bronte’s writing.
