Mequon, WI — The public is invited to a free screening of the documentary “This is Home: a Refugee Story” on January 27, 2019, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at Unitarian Church North, 13800 N. Port Washington Road, Mequon. The event is sponsored by the church’s social justice committee.
“This is Home” is an intimate portrait of four Syrian refugee families who settled in the U.S. before the November 2016 election. After surviving the traumas of war, the families arrive in the U.S. and are given eight months of assistance from the International Rescue Committee to become self-sufficient and “learn America.” This Sundance Film Festival award-winning documentary goes beyond the statistics, headlines, and political rhetoric to tell deeply personal stories and to put a human face on the global refugee crisis.
A discussion is planned for after the screening for those who’d like to discuss the film with area volunteers who are closely involved with refugees and refugee support networks.
