“Liar, Lunatic, Legend?” Rev. Tony Larsen

Tony’s sermon will explore C.S. Lewis’ comment about Jesus that “a man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic–on a level with a man who says He is a poached egg–or else He would be the Devil of Hell… (L)et us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher.”  Evangelical Christians are fond of quoting Lewis in their argument against the view that Jesus was “just” a moral exemplar. Could they be right?

Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen has recently retired from being the minister at Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church in Racine (for over 42 years–a record!). He has written a book entitled “Trust Yourself! You Have the Power” (Impact Publishers, 1979), authored a UUA curriculum (“A Catechism for Unitarian Universalists”) and contributed chapters to UUA-published books “Salted With Fire” and “Everyday Spiritual Practice.” Tony has served on the boards many groups, including the Women’s Resource Center, Southeastern Wisconsin AIDS Project, Racine Jail Ministry, and the LGBT Center of SE Wisconsin.
