In the fall (September 27th), Tony gave a sermon on the 250th anniversary of the founding of Universalism in America by the Rev. John Murray (actual date: October 2, 1770). This Sunday will be the 250th birthday of the Rev. Hosea Ballou (actual date: April 30, 1771). Though Murray is considered the founder of Universalism, Ballou is usually considered the father of Universalism. Find out why this Sunday. Ballou’s story, at times humorous and at times serious, still has lessons for us today; and if you have friends or acquaintances who might be curious about our faith (or you simply want to bone up on the Universalist side of our history), this would be a good service to attend.
