UNC acts directly to live our principle of “justice, equity and compassion in human relationships” . Through the Share the Plate program UCN supports, with monthly donations from the offerings, humanitarian and social justice programs in the Greater Milwaukee community, other Wisconsin communities, nationally and internationally. Each month, fifty percent of checks written and sent to UCN with the caption “Share the Plate” or “STP” are donated to a non-profit program that advocates for humanitarian and social justice issues. Recipients are nominated by a member or friend of the congregation, then approved by the Social Justice Committee.
Carol Pawlak has nominated “NETWORK: Nuns on the Bus” as our STP recipient for the months of May and June, 2021. “I’ve nominated NETWORK because of their commitment and hard work toward many social justice issues. Our donations will support their educating and organizing efforts which have been strong and effective.” In working for economic and racial justice, they focus on tax justice, a livable income and family friendly workplaces. Carol also said the activities of the NETWORK “supports our UU values and reminds me of the interdependent social web”.
