In late June, the first bipartisan gun safety legislation in 26 years — the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” — was passed by the U.S. Senate and House and signed by President Biden. To gain enough support to pass, this new law was a compromise, with the legal director of Everytown successfully advising Democratic negotiators facing NRA and other conservative demands. Everytown for Gun Safety is the largest gun safety citizens group in the country, with 8 million members, ready and able to push for even stronger community action and future legislation for gun safety. Everytown identifies research-based strategies that are proven successful in different aspects of reducing gun violence and increasing gun safety in the U.S.
